- MMP – Who plays what? Could you describe yourselves in a few words…
- Vlad – I play the guitar and sing, i play since the 88′ in psychobilly bands, bands like Os Escroques, Os Cervejas, Os Catalépticos and now the Sick Sick Sinners. Mutant Cox play the bass and sings, used to play with me in Os Catalépticos and Os Cervejas and in many other psychobilly, punk bands in the town. Emiliano play the drums and sings, he comes from the HC and Metal scene in São Paulo, playing since a long time aswell.
- MMP – How did the band get started?
- Vlad – Me and Cox used to play together in Os Catalépticos and we had this project, the Sick Sick Sinners, when Os Catalépticos decide to stop playing, naturally the Sinners start to play more and start to record albums, and tour around. The idea the band its to mix the original or classic psychobilly sound with more punk, hardcore and metal style. This is what we call Psychobilly Maldito.
- MMP – Who writes the music?
- Vlad – The album “Road of Sin” mostly was me and Cox, and the “Hospital Hell” that was the first recording with Emiliano he wrote one of the lyrics, in the “Unfuckinstoppable” everyone is wrote more together and bringing more ideas for the album, so we can say that everyone in the band is writing the whole songs.
- MMP – Do you have any side projects?
- Vlad – Mutant Cox plays with the Hillbilly Rawhide, 99Noizeagain, No Parole and AZT. Emiliano plays with The Mullet Monster Mafia and 99Noizeagain. I`m starting a new project but there`s no name yet.
- MMP – What are your occupations outside the Sick Sick Sinners?
- Vlad – Mutant Cox, plays with all these bands, so he`s full time musician, besides the band me and Emiliano work with show productions, festivals etc.. and of corse drink beer the most of the time!!
- MMP – Let’s talk about the Brazilian Psychobilly scene. What are the current bands you like?
- Vlad – We have a long history of psychobilly bands in Brazil, since 84’and 85′ we have bands playing, Kães Vadius was the first one, and by the end of the 80’s we had lots of bands playing it, like SAR, K’Billys, A Grande Trepada, Missionários, Krappulas, Estúpido Estupro, Playmobillys well loads of bands, and most of them are really great and had a big influence in our music. Today still, great bands and some of them still playing since the late 80s, I really like many bands, like Ovos Presley, Krappulas, Kães Vadius, As Diabatz, and many more, We have now some new bands coming up, the scene its pretty alive.
- MMP – Where does the name of the band come from?
- Vlad – Well, looking for a name in the beginning of the band we came up with this idea, its a sort of a 666 and Sick and Sinner, i think it came up pretty fine, nothing new but always fun!
- MMP – How’d you describe your sound?
- Vlad – Well it’s what i said before, it’s a sort of hard, fast and heavy psychobilly. We try to bring something new for the style, i think we have a big influence of the psychobilly from the early 90’s, like Demented Are Go(at this time), Mad Sin, Banane Metalik, Mental Hospital, Batfinks, Klingonz well, many of these bands, and the idea of the band it`s allways add something more to it.
- MMP – What are your main musical influences?
- Vlad – Right now i would say rock’n’roll, we are listening to all sort of it, from Country and Blues to Surf Music, Rockabilly, Ska, folk, Thrash and heavy metal.. well everything but i think the main influence of the band would be that early 90’s psychobilly.
- MMP – And other influences (movies, substances, people, …. well whatever you could imagine)?
- Vlad – Horror movies for sure, Peter Jackson and Sam Raime early stuff! And all the Classics. I have a big comics influence as well, really like heavy metal and metal hurlant magazines and Alan Moore stuff.
- MMP – Please describe “psychobilly” for our readers!
- Vlad – Psychobilly it`s a very simple form of rock’n’roll, havelly influencied by punk rock. In the beguining, late 70’s and early 80’s it was a mix between punk rock and rockabilly, mostly played with upright bass, trough the years it incorporated lots of musical styles, from heavy metal to ska.
- MMP – Have you guys ever played in another country?
- Vlad – yes, since the beginning of the band, we probably do more shows out of Brazil than here. This year we are going to tour US west cost again and Mexico.
- MMP – Describe the diversity of fans that attend your live shows?
- Vlad – Psychos, Punk Rockers, Rockabillys, Metal heads, normal and not normal people as well hahaha. We mix the genres so a lot of people show up.
- MMP – When do you guys plan on writing any new material?
- Vlad – We are already workin’ on new material, we just don’t want to hurry it up, make it with time.
- MMP – What are the future tour plans for Sick Sick Sinners?
